Google Finance static/streaming data provider

RSS
This is a static and streaming provider that downloads daily and intraday historical price data from Google Finance.

Intraday backfill

Starting from v2011.01, intraday historical data can be downloaded from Google. Supported time frames: 1 minute, 2 minute, and 5 minute. The data loading depth is only 2 months for 5-min bar scale (and less than that for 1- and 2-minute charts).

Streaming

Starting from version 2011.01, the provider supports free Streaming intraday and daily data. To enable, open the Wealth-Lab's Preferences dialog > "Streaming Data" and tick "Google Streaming Provider". Effective v2016.06, provider supports streaming updates in Accounts window for Paper Trading.

To conserve bandwidth and reduce server load, partial bars are updated once every 10 seconds for snapshot quotes.

Notes

  • Supports Market Manager
  • Its source code is provided for educational purposes and your usage is unsupported.
  • Because Google doesn't make company names available in their data, company names are looked up via a Yahoo webservice and hence may not always be precise

Issues and limitations

  • In Google's historical data, opening prices are not present for all stocks prior to 1/1/2000. Therefore, only the close price is available for the dates before 1/1/2000.
  • Provider does not have the means to adjust for splits and dividends. To maintain your data in good shape, either perform splits manually or reload the DataSet from scratch using the Data Tool's "Remove all data" feature and then updating the DataSet.
  • After facelift of Google Finance when ability to download data to spreadsheet was decommissioned, the provider was switched to a backup feed. Unfortunately, its daily data quality leaves something to be desired. To work around frequent OHLC bars with zero OHL values, the provider now applies automatic correction to such bars by assigning the Close value to the missing property if Close is non-zero on that bar.
